Living Museum of Ancient
Naturalistic Technology
To accomplish its mission, ZI.KI.A,
Inc. is committed to establishing a "living museum" of
ancient naturalistic technology to serve as:
- A "Hands-On" Learning Center to conduct work shops,
classes, seminars, lectures, presentations, demonstrations,
apprenticeships, field trips, expeditions, programs,
projects, and research.
- A Viewing Facility for
indoor/outdoor exhibits and displays of naturalistic
items.
- A Repository for controlled preservation, conditioning,
storage, and safe-keeping of authentic indigenous artifacts.
- Workshop Studio where actual
construction and unique craftsmanship of authentic artifacts
can be conducted, observed, and recorded.
Subjects of interest and areas
of expertise include: ancient tools, weaponry, archery,
flint knapping, subsistence skills, hide tanning, footwear
and clothing, cordages, plant uses, shelter construction,
and traditional land and water transportation
Proper storage and exhibition are crucial
to the preservation of these naturalistic artifacts. To
meet requests for classes and presentations, the various
items in the collection are often moved to another site
and then returned. This type of frequent movement, handling,
and exposure to climatic conditions can result in damage
and loss to these rare items. Operating on an economic
thread in such "make-do" situations places program
delivery and preservation of artifacts at great risk. Establishing
this facility will assure cultural integrity and knowledge
represented by this indigenous collection will endure.
